Sad Microdermals – Microdermal care

happysad
This week I spent five days relaxing with my boyfriend and his family at Center Parcs in Longleat. It was a lovely place, but unfortunately I had to do battle with one of my arch-nemesis… PUBLIC SWIMMING POOLS. I hate those verruca infested, urine-filled cesspits. Unfortunately I didn’t want to be a spoil-sport and not go swimming with everyone, and many of the outdoor activities are cancelled during the winter period. Bugger. I will admit the swimming itself was fun, but the aftermath reminded me of my hatred almost instantly.

I couldn’t hear out of one ear and my piercings weren’t happy. Specifically my newest microdermal. Let the fun times begin!

Now other than rant on about the cleaning process, I thought it would be best to post up my care method to aid anyone who has a similar incident!

First things first, gather everything you need. I use: stuff

  • Anti-bacterial soap (I use the brand dettol)
  • Non-iodized sea salt
  • A small cup/shot glass small enough to cover the area
  • Fresh kitchen towels (for drying the area around your microdermal)
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Hot water

The next step is the most important step. Wash your bloody hands! Grab that anti-bacterial soup and give your hands a good scrub, Christ only knows what you’ve been touching. You’ll then want to clean out the cup with some peroxide and make sure you wash it out thoroughly before using it. Hydrogen Peroxide is an acid and will burn you if used directly to your skin. It is far too strong for piercing aftercare, only use it for (slightly) sterilising equipment. Never use peroxide on piercings!

Now run your tap and let the water get to a temperature you can just bare on your skin. The heat will encourage blood flow around the infection, helping it to heal faster. Add a small amount of sea salt, but not too much! You should aim to get it to around the saltiness of tears. Too much salt and it will dry your skin, prolonging the healing process.

soak Hold the cup over the microdermal (as pictured) for 3-5mins. This will allow the warmth of the water and the drawing, slightly sterile nature of the salt to work it’s magic. If I can clearly see some swelling under my microdermal I give it a little squeeze. Wash your skin with warm water. I usually do an additional soak for 1min before washing it with cold water and letting it air-dry. Towels harbour bacteria, never use towels on an infected piercing.

Do this twice a day. Over-care can be just as damaging as none at all. If you find there is lymph around the piercing do not pick it off. It is a sign that your body’s immune system is working and an important part of the healing process.

Good luck and I hope you have a swift recovery. Remember if you are worried about the infection, always speak to your doctor or a trained piercer!

Bulbs WIP

I’ve been drawing strange things again. The flowers have been a real challenge, hopefully they will turn out ok. I have been trying to get back into painting and drawing. Photoshop is such a clean and quick alternative to paints, although it’s one hell of a steep learning curve!

There’s so much to do on this but it’s taken me three hours so far and I reeeeaally need to eat *rubs tummy*

Waiting

Man in the snowWorking from home again today. I waited for 2hours at the station before deciding to head home. I even had to walk through the woodland as the path next to the road was far too dangerous. The snow is beautiful and it’s great to watch when you’re in a thoughtful mood but damn does it mess with my commute.

Although working from home is nice (I’m back in my PJs and drinking some yummy cinnamon hot chocolate!), I find it really hard to get motivated. I’m working on some rather dull hand over documents for my current colleagues, presenting this will be boring, I feel pretty sorry for them.

I took the opportunity to snap a few pictures while I was waiting and walking. Might as well do something when you have two hours to burn.

Snow Day

Well, the UK had one hell of a snow storm last night and from what I can gather, most people are working form home today. Early this morning I thought I would brave the weather to try and get to work, that didn’t go so well. Since I was already wrapped up I thought I’d take a short walk to the river.

The house in this picture is so lovely, it’s like my dream house. I decided to edit it a bit as I’m a bit bored of staring at my webmail.

New Year Neo

cosplaycorner_issue67
Ah what a nice start to my working year. Upon returning to the office, I was handed a copy of the latest Neo Magazine. Marc and Beate had submitted one of the shots taken during our ShikaTem shoot last year to feature in the Cosplay Corner.

Many thanks to Mark for the kind comment and URL pimping!

Minus Five

Good God it’s cold! I’m sat in the office with three layers of clothing and a scarf on and I’m tempted to wear my gloves too since my circulation is playing up. I hate winter, I really do. I cannot wait for Spring so I can get some sunshine and warmth! I woke up today under my two duvets, a blanket, hugging a hot water bottle and able to see my breath in the air. Not nice.

Here’s today’s DailyPhoto to demonstrate how cold it is today.

elf As always the Christmas break seemed to fly by. The days were spent relaxing, drinking, eating and spending time with loved ones. Christmas Eve began with heavy-lifting and travelling as I took the three lizards to my father’s for the duration of my visit. Sparky was not very well at all and leaving him for 10days was not an option. The evening was spent in The Carisbrooke Arms, a local pub my brother frequents when he is on leave. It’s a nice pub even though it’s reputation when I was younger was pretty bad. I met with my school friend, Gina, and promptly got rather sloshed on Southern Comfort (not quite so posh really). My Brother’s best friend Luke had decided to get festive and dressed up like an Elf for the occasion. I couldn’t stop laughing when he emerged from my brother’s room in red tights and snowy boots with the little bell on his hat jingling. It was far too funny!

presents Christmas morning was spent being very hungover and unwrapping our gifts before travelling all over Hampshire visiting various family members. I got some lovely presents including The Bovril Cookbook from my parents, which I will be making use of very soon, a lovely leopard print scarf from Mike’s Mum and stupid amounts of wine. Everyone seemed to enjoy my presents too, especially Mike who I bought the US limited edition of Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? and a Piano black PSP. He loves the Disgaea games so they seemed like the perfect gifts for him this year.

Boxing Day was a sad day for me as Sparky became so ill that I took him to a local vets for one last visit. The vet was lovely and even had him on their books since we went there over 8 years ago! It was very sad but in the end I was glad it was over, I am sure he is too. He had to be hand-fed every two days, had to have help shedding his skin, had recurring eye infections and was pretty much an old man. He had been with me for 14years so it was a huge blow and I was glad to have my family around me.

He was a lovely little guy

I spent New Year on the Isle of Wight with Mike. Although the weather wasn’t ideal, we had a great time. I’d really missed him and having 5 whole days together was wonderful. I returned to my flat on Saturday and was instantly missing him. Luckily we will be going for a 5day break at Centre Parks in a few weeks, I can’t wait.

As far as New Year Resolutions go I have a few in mind. But first, let’s see what my resolutions were last year…

2009 Resolutions

De-clutter. I am a hoarder. It’s something I’ve always done, and I am fed up of being surrounded by STUFF. Half my belongings I rarely appreciate on a day-to-day basis. I’ve got manga I’ve read once and is collecting dust, videos that I have for the sake of having and clothing coming out of my ears! – DONE!

Get healthy. This means both mentally, physically and financially. A lot has happened over 2008, a lot of bad things and some good. Unfortunately the bad has over-weighed the good and has left me in a rather nasty state. I want to over come this and move on this year. - Nearly there, just need to lose a little weight :S

Work less. I over-work myself far too much, I get too worried about my work. I’m fed up of this. I want to enjoy my free time and spend it doing things I enjoy such as spending time with Mike, gaming and photography. – Done! Although I still finish work late most nights, I feel more positive about it since I am moving roles.

Arty farty. I love being creative and I am really enjoying the photography work I have been doing. It’s really given me something to focus on and work hard at improving. I want to do more and be more adventurous with my work. Do more collaborations and work with new people to add real variety to my work. I’ve got a number of projects I would like to work on this year and it’s really driving me – Done. But I still think I could do a lot more painting and artwork
