Opera Opera

The other day I had a strange realisation – I’d been wearing the same glasses since 2006! I’d replaced the lenses in them annually and had countless repairs on them. I’ve got a pretty severe astigmatism that basically means I’m as blind as a badger’s arse. Because of this I wear glasses every day, all day. They are my favourite accessory. The pair I’d worn since 2007 were a gorgeous pair of Jai Kudo frames and had some fabulously garish Leopard print on the inside. Here’s a rediculous picture of me wearing them four years ago.

It was definitely time for a change. There is an opticians in Covent Garden that had caught my eye on numerous occasions called Opera Opera (shame about the fugly website), which recreates vintage designs – including the frames that were once available on the NHS, and I had to get my next frames from them.

So here they are in all their glory! I absolutely love them and it’s so refreshing to change frames after seeing them every single day. The staff there were lovely and the service was brilliant. I can’t recommend them enough if you’re looking to get something a bit more unusual.

Here I am wearing them with the very glamorous Kelsey, at her 21st birthday party last weekend.

Garrus Portrait WIP Part 2

Some may remember the portrait I posted work in progress images of back in January. It’s of Garrus, a character from the video game Mass Effect.

It’s only been 6 months (oops) but I thought I’d stick the canvas on my easel and do a bit more work on it today. I’m hoping to get it done next week, but I did chose to paint it on a huge canvas…

First Suspension Video

Last night I posted my experience of my first body suspension – a 6 point angel suspension. You can read it and see the photos here. The process was also recorded on my phone, so I’ve created the video below. Enjoy!

Body Suspension Experience

Suspension has been on my to-do list for some time now. It’s fascinated me since the first time I saw a photo of it on BMEzine a long time ago. Today was the second time I have joined Constant Elevation for one of their suspension events. Only today I took part!

I would write a detailed experience, but I’m still buzzing and I think pictures speak louder than words for this one. The photos contain mild violence and blood.

If you have any questions about any part of my experience please leave a message in the comment section below!

A video of the whole suspension can be found here!

Getting measured up for the hooks, I had six in total.

The piercing. This was pretty painful, but was over very quickly. Most of the photos make me look like I’m planking which is rather amusing.

Chirp Chirp

One of the many perils of keeping reptiles as pets – Their live food likes to escape! Here’s a little video I made this morning after hearing a cricket singing from behind my gaming set up.

Sorry about the aspect ratio, had my phone the wrong way up. Oops!

The Special 10K 2011

I ran my first 10k race last weekend! I took part in the British 10K London Run on behalf of a very awesome children’s charity, SpecialEffect.

I joined fellow members of the video games industry to raise over £11,000! It was a really fantastic atmosphere on the day and I really enjoyed being part of such a fun team. 10K was the furthest I have ever ran. Well, walked and ran. I managed to pull a muscle behind my knee at around the 7K mark. Luckily I managed to walk it off by the 9K mark and sprinted the last 300m. I didn’t make a brilliant time, but at least I’ve got a goal for the next race!

My fellow team mates included:
Dave Moran (Midlifegamer), Kirsty Payne (SpecialEffect/Mastertronic), Andy Robertson (Family Gamer), Matt Eyre (Sega), Mark Ward (Warner), Johnny Minkley (SpecialEffect/Eurogamer), Simon Cowley (NCSoft), Graeme Boyd (Microsoft), Dan Maher (Microsoft), Mark Robins (Lunch PR), Andrew Smith (SpiltMilk), Lucy Starvis (Lunch PR), Cat Channon (NCSoft), Craig Stephens (NCSoft), Nicky Hunt (Spiltmilk), Mick Morris (Audiomotion), Brian Mitchell (Audiomotion), Rachel Tudhope (Audiomotion), Luke Niejadlik (Audiomotion), Gareth Glover (Codemasters), Neil Grainger (Audiomotion), Steve Merrett (Voltage PR), Alison Beasley (Lincoln Beasley), Jacob Mattock (Lincoln Beasley) and Nick Streeter (SpecialEffect).

HUGE thanks to everyone who donated!

Photo time! Most of these were stolen from the SpecialEffect Facebook page.
