Dream Bug Sketches

Yes, I sketched something for the first time in ages!

Last night I was dreaming about getting some new leaf insects, however the insect in my dream was completely fictional. Now I think a combination of my lack of sleep last night, handling my Phyllium giganteum before bed and the fact that I was shopping for carnivorous plants yesterday is to blame for this one.

Although I can’t remember if this insect used it’s Cape sundew-like tail to catch other insects, it looks damn cool. I also like the leafy antennae I gave it. I would actually love to have one of these as a pet, but obviously I can’t. But since it was on my mind, I drew it instead. I hope you like my scribbles!

Sorry for the poor image quality, I haven’t got a scanner at the moment.

New Year Etsy Sale!

One of my goals for 2012 is to grow my art portfolio. For the last year I have mostly been creating videogame fanart and commissions, and although fun, they’re not really pushing my creativity. Because of this, I’m currently in the process of emptying my Etsy store so I can come back soon with fresh new stock!

Videogame-related commissions are still open for those interested, just send me a message on my “contact” page and we’ll chat.

Click the image below to visit my store and see my current wares! Don’t forget to use the code “SHIKABOOM1″ to get 20% off your order!

Sale ends Feb 1st, 2012.

Cobweb Eeerz Custom Video

Here’s the time lapse video I promised in my last post. The music is Noah & The Whale’s “Give It All Back” and the custom took about two hours to complete (between tea breaks!).

Cobweb Eeerz Custom

I finally got around to painting my Vinyl Eeerz figurine! Of course, it had to be insect themed. I’m currently working on a time lapse video so expect to see that in a few hours. EDIT: You can see the time lapse video here!

This is the first vinyl figurine I have tried customizing and I really enjoyed it. I’ll definitely try something more ambitions next time.

Eeerz Invasion Tour London

Working for a games company usually means, well, I work with video games. But occasionally we get to try our hand at something new. Last week I was promoting some vinyl art toys called ‘DIY Eeerz’. These toys are modeled on the crazy characters, the Rabbids, and are designed to be customised. To promote the launch we paired up with Forbidden Planet in London and a bunch of amazing artists to showcase some truly fantastic customs.

Since painting and drawing is a hobby of mine, I was especially interested to take part in the drawing workshops with the artists and take a look at how they have changed their Eeerz into something of their own. I’ve got my own Eeerz model sat on my desk, but I plan to do a time-lapse video the painting process in the next few weeks.

Photos from the event are below, many I took for work – hence the logos, but there are a few extras thrown in! You can use the image browser to see the full photoset and scroll down to see my favourites and my comments.

Knitting

Chris’ mum taught me to knit on Sunday. I used to knit and crochet a lot with my Great Grandmother when I was younger, but video gaming and other past times have since replaced that knowledge so it was nice to re-learn this skill.

I’ve started on a scarf for Chris – which is currently full of holes. I’m sure the next one will be better. Expect photos of my woolen exploits soon.

I’ve also changed my hair! I’m a red head again (albeit a much tamer colour) and thought I’d try out curls.

Garrus Vakarian Portrait

It’s finally finished! I started this project back in December and it’s finally done! Work in progess images can be found here and here. It’s a shame the orange background didn’t photograph too well

I’ve been playing with my new HD camera so a time lapse video is below.
