The Special 10K 2011

I ran my first 10k race last weekend! I took part in the British 10K London Run on behalf of a very awesome children’s charity, SpecialEffect.

I joined fellow members of the video games industry to raise over £11,000! It was a really fantastic atmosphere on the day and I really enjoyed being part of such a fun team. 10K was the furthest I have ever ran. Well, walked and ran. I managed to pull a muscle behind my knee at around the 7K mark. Luckily I managed to walk it off by the 9K mark and sprinted the last 300m. I didn’t make a brilliant time, but at least I’ve got a goal for the next race!

My fellow team mates included:
Dave Moran (Midlifegamer), Kirsty Payne (SpecialEffect/Mastertronic), Andy Robertson (Family Gamer), Matt Eyre (Sega), Mark Ward (Warner), Johnny Minkley (SpecialEffect/Eurogamer), Simon Cowley (NCSoft), Graeme Boyd (Microsoft), Dan Maher (Microsoft), Mark Robins (Lunch PR), Andrew Smith (SpiltMilk), Lucy Starvis (Lunch PR), Cat Channon (NCSoft), Craig Stephens (NCSoft), Nicky Hunt (Spiltmilk), Mick Morris (Audiomotion), Brian Mitchell (Audiomotion), Rachel Tudhope (Audiomotion), Luke Niejadlik (Audiomotion), Gareth Glover (Codemasters), Neil Grainger (Audiomotion), Steve Merrett (Voltage PR), Alison Beasley (Lincoln Beasley), Jacob Mattock (Lincoln Beasley) and Nick Streeter (SpecialEffect).

HUGE thanks to everyone who donated!

Photo time! Most of these were stolen from the SpecialEffect Facebook page.

It’s time to kick ass and chew bubblegum…

… and drink far too much tequilla!

I was lucky enough to attend the Duke Nukem Forever lunch party yesterday. It was brillaint fun. The women walking around with shots of tequilla and vodka were a very good bad idea.

It’s a shame the demo on show wasn’t particularly interesting as most of it was cut scenes and I couldn’t hear it. I really wanted to give it a go and shoot some pigcops. Will have to wait a little longer I guess.

Anyway, here are some embarrassing photos:

This is a terrible photo but Oli’s face in this is brilliant! The guy dressed as Duke was freaking HUGE!!

And finally, an idea of how drunk I was. Oops!duke3

Big thanks to Laura Sindall for the photos!

Garrus Portrait WIP

Before Christmas I started work on a Garrus portrait painting, purely for self-satisfaction. I did a little more to it this weekend so I thought I’d share my progress. Also, grey really doesn’t like to photograph well. *grumble*

I’m also working on a few small commissions but pictures will come later. For now check out this awesome little video of a Cockroach Tour happening at the London Science Museum. I want one of those costumes! I’d dance around my living room in it.

2010 – Photo Recap

Happy New Year! Finally 2011 is here, and I am really looking forward to seeing what this year brings. Last year I decided to recap 2009 in photos as it was a great way to reflect on the events of the year in a why that wasn’t too much of a heavy read or boring as sin. I’ve decided to do another recap for 2010 as it’s a great way to get back into blogging after my Christmas hiatus! So let’s begin… read more »

Expo Exhaustion

stand2
Sorry this update is so late, I’ve been recovering from the Expo weekend… and I’m rather addicted to Fallout: New Vegas. Oops!

The MCM Expo went very well, much better than I had expected actually! Not only did I sell almost all of my stock, but I also made a fair bit for GamesAid. You can see my lovely stand above. (credit to Diogo for the photo and @ReeceHeywood for the creative editing – haha!)

Chris was Mr Salesman the whole weekend, which he clearly enjoyed. So much so that he wouldn’t let me sell my own work most of the time. “I’ll ask for the artist if she is needed”. Well, at least it meant I could run about and catch up with a few friends and colleagues.

As usual there were plenty of amazing cosplayers, some of which had travelled from all over Europe to compete in the Euro Cosplay Competition. Take a look at Nert’s awesome photos of the event if you want to see some truly epic costumes! There was one costume that stood out for me above all the rest. It made me completely geek out over a costume for the first time in years. Just look at it…

The Pip-Boy was made using an iPod Touch. LOVE IT! Makes me want to get costuming making again for the next event!

Another random happening at the show was when a sudden influx of people started buying up my Assassin’s Creed artwork prints. It wasn’t until my friend Steve a.k.a Fantaman popped over that I found out it was because the Ubisoft stand had ran out of prints for Roger Craig Smith to sign. Roger Craig Smith, as in the voice of Ezio! Awesome. Steve even managed to get a short video of someone proudly holding up my signed artwork. Here’s a still from the video.

If I’m being honest, I was pretty over-whelmed by the response to my work. It was really, really flattering to have so many compliments about my work and it was fantastic to meet so many lovely artists and gamers. Thanks again to all those who bought something or just popped by look and have a chat. I can’t wait to do it again next October!

Now I’m going to order more prints and relax before Chris gets home from the midnight launch of the new Call of Duty: Black Ops. Bye Bye boyfriend.

Let’s go Expo!

expostock1

Wow, so that’s come around quickly! This weekend is the London MCM Expo, the biggest Gaming, comics and 174046007  movie event in the UK. I’ll be selling my artwork and commission slots the entire weekend and I am extremely excited and nervous! Up until this event, all of my work has been commissioned work or “just for fun”. This will be the first time that not only will my work be subjected to public scrutiny, but it’ll be the first time I’ll have truly public commission spaces.

The stock above is a selection of the work that will be for sale on my stand, but it includes all the canvas pieces I will have on offer. I’ve only got half a table so I need to be creative with the space available. Hopefully most people will find something they would like, or will be inspired to request a commission! If not, I have my shiny new business cards (pictures above) that people can take away with them.

In addition to the pieces on my stand, I have also created a trio of paintings for the Pokémon tournament that is taking place over the weekend. You can see them below. Not only that but I am offering a FREE 16″x12″ acrylic commission space to the winner of the Super Smash Brothers Tournament. I hope they ask for something exciting!

Here’s hoping it’s a successful weekend and if not, well it will be a lot of fun! Hopefully I’ll see a few familiar faces. Keep and eye out for an post-expo update, probably on Monday.

Remember, 20% of every sale and commission will go directly to GamesAid!

Painting Panic

Keeping this blog updated has been the last thing on my mind recently. Not only did I go on a lovely relaxing holiday to Pembrookshire in Wales but I have been working hard building up a good stock of artwork to fill these pages with and to sell.

At the London MCM Expo this October I will be sharing a dealer table with the awesome Tab Kimpton and his collection of steampunk and cosplay goodies, and comic books. As such I’ve been very busy beavering away at my easel, creating pieces for sale and prints. As the event spans over three days I am pretty worried about not having enough stock, hopefully that wont be the case. Below are a few pieces that I have created especially for the Expo so far. My goodness there’s a lot to get done!
