Video Game Heroes 2011

Last night Chris and I attended Video Game Heroes at the London Southbank Centre, which is part of Vision Sound Music – the UKʼs first festival of music for visuals.

The London Philharmonic Orchestra played music from a wide selection of Videogames: everything from World of Warcraft, to Deadspace, to Angry Birds. It was fantastic! You can see the full set list below. The music for 007: Blood Stone was particularly surprising, I hadn’t heard it until last night and it’s made me want to buy the game – no matter how good or bad it is. My favourite piece was by far the one from Dead Space – it stood out from the other tracks and is such an emotional soundtrack.

We also had a lovely afternoon exploring the Southbank and having a nice long walk around soho. Here are some more photos of the day:

Silly faces on the train.

We found some amazing cider at the Real Food Market on the Southbank. Just what you need on a sunny day!

The Stall selling the cider also sold chutneys and pickles. We bought three – Spicy tomato and caramelized onion chutney, piquant pepper jelly and (my fave) Hot garlic pickle.

Of course, the food at the market was delicious. I had a mixture of roasted artichoke salad, butter beans in tomato sauce and roast aubergines, tahini and pomegranate from Aribica food and spice. It was so yummy.

A ladybird landed on my tattoo as we walked along the Southbank. Poor thing clearly hoped for a flowery hiding place. I also confused a few bees, including a GIANT bumble that followed me a for a few minutes to the delight of some tourists.

Lastly I found a wonderfully unusual comic in Orbital Comics, and I couldn’t resist buying it. It’s called MOA-192B by Stathis Tsemberlidis. The detail and imagination of the artwork is so inspiring. I might have to pick up more comics from Decadence Publishing.

Un Deux Trois

I know this song came out last year, but I can’t stop listening to it today. We went out for a hike with one of my best friends last weekend and his love for it has completely rubbed off. Also, the video is wicked!

Here’s a few other tracks I’ve been enjoying recently. I hope you find them as fun to listen to as I do! These are great to paint to too.

Now I want to go dance to this song with him too

I’ve got so much love for this song, it’s got a great energy and I ADORE Janelle’s hair in this. Makes me miss the orange flame!

Something Good Can Work

I stole today’s title from an awesome song I’ve had on repeat for most of today. It’s kept me upbeat today despite feeling ill and you can listen to it below:

Something Good Can Work (The Twelves Remix)

Painting is going well, although I have slowed down since getting ill a week ago. The infection left me feeling really lethargic and achey, thus not really in the right frame of mind to paint. I did a little more work on a Shadow of the Colossus piece this afternoon as we were kindly given a half day at work to celebrate the end of the fiscal year ’09. You can see a pretty bad photo of me with the painting above.

In other news, I got my hands on Pokémon Soul Silver for the DS, complete with Pokéwalker! It has kept me pretty busy and I am really enjoying it. I’ve already begun my mission to capture every bug pokémon in the game. I need a Venonat damnnit! Also, Wildfireskunk finally gave me back my copy of Dead Space, which I have still yet to play! I’ve seen him play through it twice already so hopefully I can stand to see it all again since it’s been a while.

Check out my awesome Caterpie!

Tear The Place Up Up Up!

For those that have ever spoken to me about music you will know that I have a pretty eclectic taste in music. Part of it is a product of being a musician; the search for knowledge, inspiration etc. The other is just wanting to not limit myself to a genre/style since hell, I enjoy listening to a mixture of music!

It has been 8years since my favourite Alternative Rock band Skunk Anansie disbanded, back then I thought I would never have the chance to see Skin, Cass, Ace and Mark in the flesh. Then last year there were reports of them reuniting. I don’t think I have ever been so excited about the prospect of seeing a reformed band before. When they announced a European Tour at the beginning of this year I literally jumped for joy, then got my ass online and booked my tickets there and then. Brixton Accademy here I come!

6 months I have been stalking their myspace, facebook and official site. Reading every newsletter, replying to every announcement and generally being a huge fangirl. We were treated to three brand new tracks via their myspace “Tear The Place Up”, “Because of You” and “Squander” which felt like pure Skunk Anasie from the moment I heard them. I especially love “Tear The Place Up”.

Last night was the night and myself and my friend Coji, who is every much the Skunk Anansie fan I am and was perfect company. The gig was sold out and the atmosphere was electric! There was a real mixture of people, people I could feel felt exactly the same way I did. It had been too long and they had truly been missed.

The gig began with Skin storming on stage in the most fantastic silver tinsel cape and matching body suit. I was so hyped that I can’t even remember the running order, all I can remember was singing LOTS and my heart going at about 100mph. The entire gig was electric with the whole crowd moving, screaming, singing and clapping. Skin leaped and jumped around the stage, grinning all the while. My favourite part of the gig was just seeing how much fun the band were having. Nothing makes me enjoy music more than seeing that the band enjoy what they are playing!

Every one of their top hits were played and we were also treated to the new tracks, including one that they have yet to release online! Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the song, but in Skin’s own words – “This song is all about fucking!”. It was a great track and I can’t want to hear it again once it’s released. I was unlucky to be on the opposite side of any crowd surfing but we did get about 2meters away from Skin during the final song and Ace took some photos of the area I was in so hopefully I don’t look too crazy!

I’m still buzzing from the gig, I never thought I would ever see Skunk Anansie live. I hope they tour more in the future as they are truly a must see!

Markan Video Launch & Showcase

markan14Back in November of last year I was invited to do photography for an artist called Markan for his music video shoot. I spent the day shooting, being amazed by the sheer talent of all involved and wondering how someone dancing in front of a green screen would look after some serious editing.

The wait is almost over since tonight Markan is hosting a Video Launch in Camden. The night will no doubt be filled with Cool Vibes, Good Music and Great Performances with a brilliant Video as the back drop. So spread the word!

There will also be a Live Stream of the night so if your abroad and your screwing you can’t come down and see me tear it up, just log onto www.awdio.com and click onto Bar Vinyl.

I hope to see you there! I’ll be uploading photos from November’s shoot soon, but feel free to view some on my deviantART.
